China's rise and the new international security architecture

Since its creation by the Washington Treaty in 1949, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has adopted eight strategic concepts. These concepts seek to address the challenges and threats facing the Organisation in its area of influence and to maintain peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area. From the outset, these concepts have addressed the context of the Cold War, crisis management or the war in Ukraine with Russia as a threat to its security environment.
