Among the conflicts and hot spots that the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) points out in its 2022 review, the armed conflict between Morocco and the Polisario Front rises again, in the arenas of the historically (in the modern era) claimed Western Sahara. This conflict, until now theoretically frozen, once again puts the focus on the stability of a region that serves as a bridge between Africa and Europe and that is located on the edge of NATO's southern border. At this point, it is convenient to review the relevance of this region for three member states, the US, Spain and France from a point of view of strategic interests.
